Dynamic Ad Insertion

Date Last Updated: April 15, 2021

Dynamic Ad Insertion (DAI) is a server-side technology that enables publishers to insert video ads, typically targeted to an individual or household, into live linear programming and video on demand content. DAI does this by fetching ads from one or more ad servers and stitching those ads into the video content as a single stream that gets delivered to the viewer. While this process can happen either on the video playback device–in which case it’s often called Client-Side Ad Insertion–or it can happen on a server or up in the cloud–in which case it’s often called Server-Side Ad Insertion, the term DAI itself is typically used as a synonym for Server-Side Ad Insertion.
